Studio Policies and Guidelines

Creative Music Center is committed to creating a positive learning and teaching environment for its students and staff.  For this reason, it is important that all students and parents understand and abide by the studio policies as outlined below.

Creative Music Center accepts music students of all ages and abilities based on availability year-round.  New students may register online, by phone (203) 261-7301 or in person at the store.   A non-refundable payment for the first lesson is required to hold the student’s time/day when making his/her reservation.  To continue lessons after the first lesson, a registration fee of $30 and a commitment to ongoing weekly lessons is required.  Students may discontinue lessons at any time with a minimum notice of 2 lessons.

Lesson payments are due by the 28th of each month prior to lessons being given. For example, October lesson payments are due by September 28th; November lesson payments are due October 28th, etc.   The number of lessons billed is based solely on the number of lessons for your given day in the next month (e.g., If your lesson day is Monday and there are four Mondays in the month, you will be billed for four lessons; if there are five Mondays in the month, you will be billed for five, etc.).  Lessons are pro-rated for new students according to their start date.

New students pay a $30 registration fee.  Families registering a second student will owe a $20 fee with no fee required for the third student. Registration is always ongoing.

Students may opt for autopay wherein their credit card on file will be charged on the 28th of the month prior to lessons being given.  It will also be used to charge any outstanding lesson book/accessory billings on student’s account.  Visa/MasterCard, American Express and Discover are all accepted.   An active credit card is required at the time of registration regardless of whether you choose autopay or not, and customers are required to keep their credit card information updated.  A $20 late fee per month will be applied to past due accounts following a grace period of 10 days.  In the case of non-payment, lessons may be suspended until the account is brought current.

*Students wishing to discontinue lessons must give the studio a minimum notice of two lessons.  Any lessons paid beyond that will be posted to student’s account.

Missed Lessons

Consistency and commitment are the keys to developing and mastering any pursuit, including music.  Therefore, students are encouraged to attend every lesson in order to advance their skills.  If your student must miss a lesson, we ask that you please call the studio a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the lesson day that will be missed whenever possible.   We do not issue refunds for missed lessons and missed lessons are not made up.   While students are responsible for lessons missed, each student is entitled to one excused absence credit per semester block.  The blocks are as follows:  Fall/Winter (Sept 1 – Jan 31) and Winter/Spring (Feb 1 – June 30).  This credit becomes available to new students after four lessons.  To utilize your excused absence credit, it must be specifically requested through the studio no later than 12 noon on the same day of the lesson scheduled.

If your teacher is absent, a substitute may replace her/him for that week to maintain consistency for the student.  There are no credits for lessons missed if a substitute has been provided.  Students will not be charged for studio holidays or teacher absences if we are unable to provide a substitute.  Creative Music Center studio holidays are listed below:

  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day  **
  • New Year’s Day **
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th

**There are no lessons annually between Christmas and New Years. Details on specific dates will be posted on our Facebook page.

NOTE: Creative Music Center does not follow the public or private school holiday calendar.

Summer Lessons

Students are highly encouraged by their teachers to continue lessons throughout the summer months to maintain their level of proficiency.  Students who stop find they are spending a month or two in the fall catching up to where they left off at the start of the summer.  Lessons at Creative Music therefore continue as regularly scheduled through July and August with an allocation of 2 vacation credits (one per month).   Students choosing to stop are required to give the 2-lesson minimum notice and are given the option to reserve their spot for the fall with a 2-lesson non-refundable deposit which will be applied toward their September lesson billing.

Weather Cancellations

Creative Music Center does not follow the public or private school weather open/close schedules.  In the event of weather, the decision regarding lesson cancellation will be made no later than 12 noon of lesson day.   Notification will be emailed and/or texted to students as well as posted on the home page of this website and the Creative Music Center Facebook page.
