Spring In The Store
Good day to you bloggers, gear fans, and Creative types!
I have returned to present to you an information packed feature today!!
It is now April and the weather here in Connecticut is soon warming up to Spring-like levels...slowly.
In the weeks since my last "visit" I've tested out new toys, played some shows, and recorded a fair share of music.
Onto the news!
Now that Spring has arrived, so has the increase in performance and recording opportunities.
Whether I'm on stage playing guitar, in the studio recording or on site shooting video...I depend on cables.
If my cables can't perform, I can't either.
One of the most overlooked aspects to amplified and recorded music is the 1/4" cable.
Most people take for granted the input cable's importance.
Used to not only hook up guitars to amps, a 1/4" cable plug is the standard for hooking up a slew of different pieces of musical gear. With that, the standard cable needs to be reliable.
After all, we spend so much time, money and effort on learning a craft, our cables should reflect that commitment.
The Background!?
I've been fortunate to test out the Magnum and Standard cables from SnapJack.
Not only do these cables feature high-grade wiring, shielding and insulation, they are designed with the added feature of removable circuit-breaking tips.
As a live musician that uses two guitars on stage, it is always awkward to do a mid-set guitar swap...you know the drill.
Song 1 comes to and end and you begin your banter to the crowd while you lower the volume on amp and guitar...slowly unplug cable from guitar and "POP!!!!" goes your amp....the signal is still hot hot hot and the whole crowd suffers as the audible chaos of a guitar coming unplugged fills the air...replacing that softly sung ballad you've just spilled from the stage......
Snapjack solves this problem with a magnetic tip that stays in the guitar while the user switches guitars. With a simple click, the cable disconnects from the plug and completely silences the output from the guitar. No pop, no feedback and no buzzing...the guitar swap is now complete.
Each of your guitars can now have a SnapJack plugged in and when the time comes, the cable locks into the end of the waiting snapjack and you're off!
How Does It Sound!?
I have fallen in love with the sound quality yielded by both my SnapJack cables.
It is clean, dynamic and overall, accurate.
When I record performers for studio quality mixes, I want the final product to sound on CD as it did in the room. I want to know that the tones and textures of a cello are preserved in the recording without fail.
A good cable can be the deal breaker in turning a great performance into great recording.
To record a live DVD of a cellist and pianist, I used the Snapjack cable to connect my mixer up to my camera. This cable was the key connection between microphone, mixer and camera.
When I played back the sound files, I was astounded to hear the depth and clarity that the SnapJack brought to my mix.
On stage, my guitars sound bright, natural and full when using the SnapJack. There is no signal loss or background noise when I move around...and I do move on stage!
The SnapJack product line gives any performer studio-quality sound on stage as well as in the studio.
What Can I Use My SnapJack For?!
In the time that I've been using SnapJack products I have used them on:
Live Performances (guitars, keyboards, PA systems)
In Studio Recording Sessions (guitars, mixer feeds)
On Site Recording Sessions (mixer feeds)
Mixing Sessions (connecting mixer to sound processing units, mic pre-amps)
All together, I've probably exceeded 25 uses all in a professional setting in just under 2 months time.
SnapJack makes a professional grade cable ready to stand up to a multitude of uses.
Creative Music Center is now a full line SnapJack dealer, so ask about trying out one of these amazing cables today!
